On the evening of December 9, the Myanmar Narcotics Control Police announced that more than 8.5 million methamphetamine pills, valued at over 12 billion kyats, were seized in Pyin Oo Lwin Township. The drugs were being transported to Toungup, Rakhine State.
The incident occurred at 8 a.m. on November 29 when a joint team of security forces stopped and searched an Alphard vehicle driven by Wai Lin Htun. He was accompanied by Aung Thu Phyo and Pyae Phyo Hein, also known as Fatty, near Hto Bo Village in Pyin Oo Lwin Township. During the search, a total of 23.9 million methamphetamine pills were seized.
On the same day, at 9:30 AM, authorities seized 6.2 million methamphetamine pills found in plastic bags near the village of Chae Myit Pin in Pyin Oo Lwin Township. This brought the total amount of methamphetamine pills seized to 85.9 million, with an estimated value of 12.885 billion kyats.
Following this, Kyaw Moe Htun, who was involved in the transportation of the pills, was arrested at his home in Yadanarbon Ward, OkShitPin Township, Padaung Township, at 10 PM on December 1st. His accomplices include Kyaw Kyaw, Hein Sithu, and Kyaw Maung Maung Hlaing, all of whom are currently in custody.
The seized drugs were being transported and sold from Shan State to Taung Kok in Rakhine State. The arrested individuals have been charged under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act, and investigations into these offenders are ongoing.
With the absence of security personnel in some areas of Rakhine, the AA group was seen distributing drugs from the EROs group in Upper Myanmar to the international community via Rakhine State.
