The Government of Myanmar, in a joint operation involving members of security forces, administrative organizations, and regional authorities, has been conduc-ting clearance operations inside illegal structures, systematically demolishing and sealing buildings used in online scam and gambling operations in the Shwe Kokko region and the Myawady-Maehtawthalay (KK Park) region, where online scams and gambling activities are most heavily concentrated. To date, a total of 308 illegal structures within the KK Park area have been systematically demolished and destroyed.
Today, an additional 11 illegal struc-tures within section (3) of the Myawady-Maehtawthalay (KK Park) area, com-prising ten 2-storey buildings and one 4-storey building, were demolished.
Thus, out of the 425 buildings in section (3), 160 have now been demolished to date. Overall, within the entire KK Park area, 308 out of a total of 635 illegal structures have been demolished and destroyed.
Intensive and widespread searches and arrests of those who have committed crimes, including online gambling and online scams, are being carried out. According to reports from security joint forces in Myawady today, security checks were conducted in the outskirts of Myawady. In Ward (2), 75 individuals – 58 Indian men and 17 Indian women – who were engaged in illegal online gambling and online scam activities, were identified and arrested. The detainees are being well cared for and held at the Myoma Sports Ground on Hlaing Hteik Khaung Tin Road in Ward (4), Myawady, for necessary verification of their personal details. Furthermore, within Ward (3) of Myawady, a total of 8 structures – five 3-storey buildings and three 1-storey buildings – used as residences and operation centers for online scam and gambling businesses, were inspected and found. To prevent their reuse, demolition operations have been undertaken, and today one more 3-storey building was demolished, bringing the total demolished there to 2 buildings.
Additionally, 28 individuals who had committed online scams and gambling within the Shwe Kokko area after transiting through neighbouring countries including Thailand, and were in hiding, were further identified, arres-ted, and detained today. They comprise 10 Chinese nationals, 1 Vietnamese national, 7 Ethiopian nationals, 8 Indonesian nationals, and 2 Philippine nationals.
Furthermore, it is learned that items used for committing online scams and gambling within the KK Park area in Myawady Township and the Shwe Kokko area were also systematically incinerated and destroyed today to prevent their reuse.
The government, considering the suppression of online scam and gambling offenses a national duty, will continue its operations in coordination with domestic forces as well as neighbouring governments to ensure these activities cannot take root within Myanmar at all.
