President U Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently visiting China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, toured Leapmotor, China’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility, located in Zhejiang Province, this morning.
Upon his arrival at the Leapmotor plant, officials from the factory, along with representatives from Myanmar, provided insights into the company’s domestic and international production and assembly operations in Myanmar. They discussed Leapmotor’s market outlook and future prospects, and the President asked several questions during the presentation.
Leapmotor (Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co., Ltd.) is an electric vehicle manufacturer established in 2015. The company has the capability to research and produce the Intelligent Driving System, as well as the motors and electronic components required for EV manufacturing, all developed using its own in-house technology.
Global automotive giant Stellantis, the parent company of brands like Jeep, Peugeot, and Fiat, has acquired a majority stake in Leapmotor. Stellantis is expanding its international market presence through Leapmotor International, which has seen rapid growth, delivering a total of 144,155 vehicles in 2023. The company’s annual sales have increased significantly year over year, and it has expanded its reach into global markets, including Europe and the Asia Pacific region. Leapmotor’s annual production output is projected to reach between 200,000 and 300,000 vehicles, with the T03, C10, C11, and C16 models being the best sellers.
