Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win inspected yesterday damaged staff housing caused by the Mandalay earthquake and the renovation of the Pyinmana and Ottarathiri markets.
The Vice-Senior General inspected the damage to quake-affected housing of Union ministers and the repair process in Zeyatheikdi Ward, Zabuthiri Township, and coordinated with officials to fulfil the needs.
At the orange-level identified Building 3384 and the blue-level identified Building 3383 in Nyana Theikdi Ward of Zabuthiri Township, the Vice-Senior General inspected the repairing of quake-affected buildings by the Myanmar Licensed Contractors Association under the SOP issued by the Building Renovation and New Construction Supervisory Committee and instructed officials to use reusable materials in renovation tasks, carry out sanitation inside and outside the buildings and the environment and manage water pipelines and electric cables.
The No. 1 Myoma Market of Pyinmana was built on 4.375 acres of land in 1996. The earthquake destroyed 393 shops from the A and B complexes of the four-complex market.
The Vice-Senior General inspected the clearing of debris at the quake-affected A and B complexes of the market. Officials reported that, upon the invitation of EOI, under the permission of the State Administration Council, they are rebuilding the new market and verifying the designs submitted by applicant companies for technological proposals and administrative measures. The Vice-Senior General gave the necessary instructions.
At the Ottarathiri Dam, located on Kyaukoh Creek in Ottarathiri Township, the Vice-Senior General inspected the leakage of water from the dam’s conduit due to the Mandalay earthquake and its aftershocks, as well as the repair of the earthen embankment, providing necessary instructions to the officials.
The dam has 1,500 acres of watershed area with a 60-foot by 1,120-foot earthen embankment. It aims to supply sufficient drinking water to the dwellers.
Renovation of the 17-year-old dam is being carried out as quickly as possible.
