The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture announced on May 29 that the area of the old city wall and moat of Kaytumati, Taungoo, Bago Region, is a cultural heritage area.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, exercising its authority under Section 9 of the Law on the Protection and Conservation of Cultural Heritage Areas, has designated the area of the cultural heritage area, the outer boundary of the moat and the inner boundary of the city wall.
There are 23 wards in Taungoo, and 11 wards are included in the area of cultural heritage. Although the moats have been preserved, the city walls still need to be preserved. It is not easy to rebuild the city without losing its original character, as the city walls and gates have been demolished and buildings and roads have been built since the colonial era.
