Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Defense, General Maung Maung Aye, stated that the companies that originally constructed the office buildings in Nay Pyi Taw, which were damaged during the Mandalay earthquake, will be held accountable. This announcement was made during the first coordination meeting of the Buildings Renovation and New Construction Supervision Committee, where General Maung Maung Aye serves as Chairman and is also a member of the State Administration Council.
The renovation of the office buildings will be conducted in three ways: first, by assigning the original construction companies; second, by involving the companies currently engaged in construction work for the relevant ministries; and third, by employing companies approved by the three engineering associations, the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee, and the appropriate regional and state governments. These companies will also be responsible for the renovation of staff housing, according to General Maung Maung Aye.
During a visual inspection, it was noted that some buildings did not meet engineering specifications. General Min Aung Hlaing emphasized the need for re-inspection of these buildings and indicated that action would be taken if they fail to meet the required standards. He also urged the companies involved in the construction of Nay Pyi Taw to contact him within a week, as stated in a Union Cabinet meeting held on April 5.
