The Buddha Pujaniya festival at Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State, is held every year from the full moon day of Thadingyut to the full moon day of Kason. Pilgrims from all over the region come to visit every day. This year, there are more pilgrims than last year, according to the pagoda’s board of trustees.
“Last year, there were a total of 726,664 domestic and foreign pilgrims during the pagoda festival. This year, from the start of the festival on October 17 (full moon day of Thadingyut) to February 12, there were more than 800,000 pilgrims, including 781,286 domestic pilgrims and 230,666 foreign pilgrims. Among the foreign pilgrims, Thailand and Vietnam are the largest,” said an official from the pagoda’s board of trustees.
To ensure that the pilgrims who come to Kyaik Htiyo Pagoda are safe and able to visit with peace of mind, the pagoda trustees and officials are providing security, free accommodation, food and health care. 150 mountaineering vehicles are running daily, and the designated number of people and fares are arranged to make it easy to ride at a designated rate.
Due to the large number of pilgrims, the famous places along Kyaik Htiyo Pagoda, such as the Hunter’s Mountain, the Crow’s Mouth Cave, the KyaukHtagyi Pagoda, the Waterfall, and the square are crowded with pilgrims. #Kyaikhtiyo #pilgrims #Kyaikhto #Myanmar #mtnews
