The Tatmadaw troops have regained control of Mount Kanedi, which was temporarily seized by the Chin armed group, the Chin Brotherhood (CB), including the People’s Defense Force (PDF) Zoland. This group is influenced by the Rakhine terrorist organizations, the Arakan Army (AA) and the National Unity Government (NUG).
After recapturing Falam town, which was briefly occupied by the AA and the NUG-affiliated Chin armed groups on April 25, the Tatmadaw successfully took back Mount Kanedi, located in Tedim Township—the second highest mountain in Chin State. This area had served as a base for CB members who had been plundering the region. Within ten days, the Tatmadaw effectively defeated the Chin armed groups in a ground-to-air operation on May 5 and May 6.
Mount Kanedi was captured by the Chin armed group CB, influenced by the AA and NUG, during the last week of November 2023. As a strategic military base, it has seen four mutual takeovers between the Tatmadaw and the Chin armed groups.
In these operations, ten Chin PDF fighters, including women from Zoland, have been killed due to the Tatmadaw’s air and ground offensives. Fighting is currently ongoing between the Tatmadaw and the Chin rebels in the Kennedy Range.
