Thayet District Battalion No. 4 announced yesterday that nine members of the Thayet PDF who had surrendered to the Myanmar military were blacklisted, with their parents’ names and home addresses publicly disclosed. It is also reported that such actions, which threaten not only the defectors but also their families, have created a situation in which the families of the surrendered PDF members could face the risk of being killed.
According to reports, the individuals from Thayet District Battalion No. 4 who surrendered to the military are:
Phalet (aka Thet Htun) from Yenanttha Village, Kamma Township
Sithwe (aka Thet Naing Tun) from Wetkone Village
Tati (aka Nga Phyo) from Zwemi Village
Thiha (aka Kyaw Thiha) from Chaukpin Village
Wine Lay (aka Htun Naing Win) from Pyin Inn Village, Thayet Township
Line Gar (aka Thet Paing Soe) and Nway Oo (aka Kaung Khant Hein) from Taung Min Tei Ward
Ta Naw (aka Shin Thant Maung) from Pyaung Village, Mindon Township
Myat Thu (aka Naing Htet Wai) from Kantwin Village.
Even the Myanmar military, which the PDFs regard as an enemy, has been taking care of surrendered PDF members as if they were family, awarding them cash rewards, encouraging them to continue their education, and helping them seek employment opportunities. Meanwhile, the NUG and PDFs have reportedly been inciting violence not only against surrendered PDF members but also against their families. Such actions are being criticized and condemned as vile and disgraceful even by some supporters of the NUG and PDFs themselves.
