Timor-Leste promises not to allow the activities of illegal organisations against the Myanmar Government and wants to promote relations between the two countries.

Mr Bendito dos Santos Freitas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, visited Myanmar from 17 to 19 September 2025. During the visit, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Than Swe and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste Mr Bendito dos Santos Freitas held discussions on bilateral matters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
During their meeting, the two Foreign Ministers underlined the importance of upholding the ASEAN Charter and its principles, especially non-interference in the internal affairs of member States. They also pledged to promote diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Timor-Leste.
Moreover, Timor-Leste officially proposed to the Myanmar Government to open an Embassy in the capital city, Dili. Timor-Leste reaffirmed its commitment not to allow the activities of illegal organisations against the Myanmar Government, as well as opening offices in Timor-Leste.
