Htet Khaung Lin, a reporter for The Irrawaddy, The Irrawaddy Times, and Myanmar Now, fled the country following the Spring Revolution and is no longer employed by The Irrawaddy Times, as confirmed by the publication.
The woman who revealed Htet Khaung Lin’s alleged attempt to rape a female reporter, who is divorced, is Htet Htet Aung, a fellow reporter currently residing in the United States.
During a live broadcast, Htet Htet Aung explained that Htet Khaung Lin had invited the divorced journalist to his home, claiming he wanted to discipline her. The journalist reached out to Htet Htet Aung for support, but Htet Htet Aung was unable to accompany her. When the divorced journalist arrived at Htet Khaung Lin’s house, he initially gave instructions to his junior and senior colleagues but later made inappropriate sexual remarks and attempted to assault her. At that moment, the journalist managed to make a video call to Htet Htet Aung, who intervened to stop Htet Khaung Lin.
Following the incident, a public dispute erupted between Htet Khaung Lin and Htet Htet Aung on social media, with Htet Khaung Lin asserting that he only wanted to reveal the identity of the woman he accused of assaulting her, who he claimed was too afraid to come forward.
According to Htet Khaung Lin’s social media profile, he is married and a father to a young daughter.
