A delegation led by H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, paid a courtesy call on President U Min Aung Hlaing of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar this morning, Presidential Spokesperson Dr. Khine Khine Soe announced.
At the invitation of Myanmar’s Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane arrived in Nay Pyi Taw on the evening of June 11 for a two-day official visit to Myanmar from June 12 to 13.
The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries, which have endured for more than seven decades, and to enhance cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
Since President U Min Aung Hlaing assumed office on April 10, 2026, following his election by the Union Parliament, several foreign ministers, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, and Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, have paid courtesy calls on the President. The visit by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane marks the latest in a series of such high-level engagements.
In addition to receiving visits from foreign ministers of neighboring countries and ASEAN member states, President U Min Aung Hlaing paid an official visit to India from May 30 to June 3 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the visit, he met with the President and Prime Minister of India, as well as other senior leaders. The trip was regarded as a successful visit that helped strengthen friendship, economic cooperation, and investment opportunities between the two countries.
