U Sai Ngaw Saing Hein, a former member of the Pyithu Hluttaw who won three consecutive elections, was assassinated yesterday while working in a rice field in Mauk Mae Township, Southern Shan State.
The incident occurred at 9 am when U Sai Ngaw Saing Hein was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while on his way to work in the rice field.
“On July 11, 2025, at 9 am, while working in a field in Shan State (South), U Sai Ngaw Saing Hein, the Chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, was shot dead by a terrorist gunman. We are deeply saddened to hear of his death at the scene. May U Sai Ngaw Saing Hein rest in peace,” announced Cherry Land, a USDP page.
Since the 2021 coup, the Union Solidarity and Development Party has seen at least 2,000 of its members killed, and the group responsible for the assassination of U Sai Ngaw Saing Hein has yet to claim responsibility.
U Sai Ngaw Saing Hein, who was 62 years old at the time of his assassination, was a dedicated teacher who worked tirelessly for regional development, regardless of race or religion. He had won elections in 2010, 2015, and was a candidate in the 2020 elections, which were annulled due to allegations of vote rigging. He was also preparing to contest in the upcoming 2025 elections.
