The Ministry of Home Affairs has reported that the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) shot and killed a betel nut seller and arrested three individuals, including a civil servant, in Mahlaing Township yesterday.
The incident occurred at 11:00 AM on June 11, 2025, when U Zaw Myo Thet, also known as Ko Thet, aged 47, was at his betel nut shop near Shwe Mu Htao Pagoda. Approximately 20 members of the Natogyi PDFs arrived from Naw Tho Gyi Township in a vehicle and on five motorcycles. They opened fire on U Zaw Myo Thet, resulting in his death from gunshot wounds.
The assailants abducted three individuals: U Kyaw Thet (55), U Thet Naing Oo (Kh) Nga Thet (47), and Daw Khin Myint Htwe (40), a senior clerk at the Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank in Mahlaing Township. The kidnappers then returned to Than Bo-Than Tan Village in Taungtha Township, Mandalay Region.
In response to this incident, security forces are taking necessary measures to swiftly rescue the civil servant and the two civilians who were taken by the assailants.
