The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture has announced that it will classify the ancient buildings damaged by the Mandalay earthquake and prioritize them for repair and maintenance, based on the level of damage.
Ancient buildings damaged by the Mandalay earthquake have been classified in stages. The first priority is for 1,752 ancient buildings with great cultural heritage value, the second priority is for buildings that are partially damaged and have little original structure, and the third priority is for buildings that have been renovated almost as new except for the basement.
Currently, restoration and conservation work on ancient buildings and cultural heritage is being carried out systematically and sustainably, with the close supervision of the Department of Archaeology and National Museums, with the advice of historians, archaeologists, the Myanmar Engineering Association, the Myanmar Architects Association, and the Myanmar Earthquake Association.
