The Ayeyarwady River water level in Kachin State, Myitkyina, rose to 7.5 feet in one day on April 24 and is expected to rise above current levels in 17 towns in the next 13 days, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The water level in the upper reaches of the Ayeyarwady River is expected to rise by 5.5 to 6.5 feet in Bamaw, Shweku, Katha and Thabeikkyin over the next 1 to 5 days and by 4.5 to 5.5 feet in Mandalay, Sagaing, Myinmu, Pakokku and Nyaung U over the next 5 to 8 days.
In addition, the water level in Chauk, Minbu, Magway, Aung Lan, Pyay, Hinthada and Zalun is expected to rise by 3.5 to 4.5 feet above the current level in the next 8 to 13 days. Due to this situation, vessels, boats and ships traveling in the rivers should be careful and people who live on the sandbanks should be aware of the possibility of rising river water.
