According to Vice-President U Win Tint of the federation, the Myanmar Chinlone Federation (MCF) is working to submit traditional Myanmar Chinlone, also known as cane ball, to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2026. To support this effort, the MCF has formed committees to collect and document historical information about the traditional Chinlone sport.
This article will describe the Chinlone sport, its equipment, culture, and historical evidence. In playing Chinlone, a cane ball is hit with the toes, feet, knees, palms, heels, and soles of the feet.
Myanmar people and foreigners have played chinlone for centuries, which is believed to have originated in the Pyu era. Its unique feature is not a competition between individuals or teams but a collaborative effort in which players work together to keep the Chinlone from falling to the ground.
