The Myanmar Thanakha Culture will be submitted to UNESCO for inclusion in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage List this year, said U Tin Oo Lwin, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, Chairman of the Myanmar National Intangible Cultural Heritage Preservation and Promotion Committee.
A meeting to discuss the “Practice of Thanakha Culture in Myanmar” with national intangible cultural heritage experts was held this morning at the Lokanat Hall of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture via Virtual Online System.
Myanmar has been trying to include intangible cultural heritage in the country in UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1996, but it was not until 2014 that UNESCO recognized the three ancient Pyu cities, Bagan in 2019, and Atar Thingyan in 2024 as intangible cultural heritage sites in Myanmar.
