The Rural Development Department under Myanmar’s Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development held a workshop on rural transformation through the Smart Village project of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Yangon on Thursday, an official from the ministry told Xinhua on Friday.
During the event, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe said the country’s rural transformation efforts are being implemented in line with the Myanmar Comprehensive Sustainable Development Plan, according to the state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar.
He noted that the efforts target the 69 percent of the population living in rural areas, the report said.
He said the ministry is carrying out the Territorial Rural Development approach across six key sectors, such as rural infrastructure development through the Smart Village project, agrochemicals and financial assistance, vocational training and rural economic promotion, strengthening units and technical distribution, social protection and environmental conservation.
