A delegation led by H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, the Special Representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry for Asian Affairs, visited the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, at the Tatmadaw Guest House in Nay Pyi Taw this afternoon.
During their meeting, they discussed the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and the involvement of international witnesses, including China, in the signing of the NCA. The discussion also covered China’s ongoing support for Myanmar’s internal peace and development, its commitment to the country’s sovereignty and security, and the friendly, strategic relations between the two nations, emphasizing their status as good neighbors.
The discussions included preparations for conducting free and fair elections in Myanmar scheduled for December, as well as China’s support for the electoral process. They outlined arrangements for using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs) to facilitate a transparent voting experience.
Additionally, they exchanged views on inviting international election observation teams, including representatives from China, to monitor the elections. They also addressed cooperation to maintain peace and stability in the border regions between the two countries and explored ways to further strengthen their friendship and collaboration.
Following the meeting, the acting president presented the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs) to the Special Representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry for Asian Affairs. Officials from the Election Commission demonstrated the operational procedures of the voting machines and addressed any inquiries from the Special Representative.
