Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the National Security and Peace Commission, announced during the second Myanmar-China Economic Cooperation Promotion Meeting held 7 September at the Shangri-La Hotel in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, People’s Republic of China, that memorandums of understanding on project cooperation will be signed between Sichuan Province, Mandalay, Chengdu, and Yangon.
Currently, there are numerous areas of cooperation between Myanmar and Sichuan Province. The two sides plan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to establish friendly cooperative relations aimed at strengthening their collaboration in various sectors, including economy, trade, infrastructure construction, agriculture, health, and education, according to the acting president.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed to establish a sister city relationship between Chengdu and Yangon, the economic capital of Myanmar. To further enhance economic and trade cooperation, as well as tourism, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people interactions, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing mentioned that discussions are ongoing to resume passenger flights between Yangon and Chengdu, which have been suspended since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Myanmar shares borders with some of the world’s most populous countries, including China and India, as well as having a large population to its west in Bangladesh. This positioning offers numerous opportunities for trade. Additionally, Myanmar is strategically located at the crossroads of South Asia, Southeast Asia, and China. It serves as a vital transportation hub, providing a route for China to access the Indian Ocean. As a result, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing highlighted the significant potential of the transportation and infrastructure sectors for China. #Acting president #MOU #Sichuan and Mandalay #Chengdu and Yangon #mtnews update
