Organizations condemn TNLA terrorists for destroying 125-year-old Gokteik Viaduct
25 August 2025
The world-famous Gokteik Viaduct, a 125-year-old rail-cum-bridge, is Myanmar’s highest and the second highest in the world. It is also the largest railway trestle bridge globally. The viaduct, located on the Mandalay-Lashio railway line, connects Nawnghkio and Kyaukme in Shan State (North). On the morning of 24 August, TNLA terrorists exploded the Gokteik Viaduct by planting mines, damaging a 60-foot section of the bridge between Pier P-16 and the approach structure AB-2 on the Kyaukme side. Both the bridge deck in that section and the approach structure AB-2 were destroyed.
The Gokteik Viaduct, a 125-year-old world-famous railway bridge that is one of Myanmar’s iconic landmarks and has been listed among the world’s wonders, was deliberately blown up with mines by TNLA terrorists. Instead of being preserved and protected, the bridge was destroyed in a reckless act unrelated to military measures. The entire people have strongly condemned and rejected this action as completely unacceptable.
Moreover, Young Men’s Buddhist Association (Central), Myanmar Interfaith Dialogue Group (Central), Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance, Union of Myanmar Methodist Church (Lower Myanmar), Faith Evangelical Church (Bago), Deliverance Church (Yangon), All Myanmar Hindu Central Council, All Myanmar Tamil Hindu Foundation (HQ), Thananta Dhamma Palaka (Hindu) Association, Islamic Religious Affairs Council Myanmar, Pinnaygon Yakhine Jaame Mosque, Buthidaung-Maungtaw Regional Development Association, Myanmar Artists Organization (Central), Myanmar Theatrical Association (Central), Myanmar Comedians’ Association, Myanmar-Shia Muslim Religious Organization (Central), Myanmar Press Council, Myanmar Sports Media Federation, Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization, Myanmar Writers’ Association, and Myanmar Music Association (Central), issued their statements of strong condemnations over such action of TNLA terrorists.
