Armed terrorist groups continue to carry out violence aimed at disrupting education and undermining efforts to improve the learning opportunities for the country’s young generation. Their deliberate actions include robbing and destroying school textbooks and writing materials, sending threatening letters to education personnel, parents and students, issuing abduction threats, committing murders, and planting landmines to destroy school infrastructure.
In one incident, a group of Grade 12 students who were to retake the matriculation examination were temporarily staying in Thiri Mingala Ward, Ward 1, Nyaung U, Mandalay Region, around 9 am on June 14, 2025. They were from the Basic Education High School (Branch) in Kalate Village, NyaungU Township. Six students – Khin Thet Htar, Ju Ju Su Hlaing, Toe Ei Wai, Yamin Thu, Mya Mya Thet, and Chan Myae Aung – were withdrawn from their accommodations by their parents after receiving threats from the PDF terrorist group.
The three students – Arkar Chan Myay Kyaw, Tun Naing Lin, and Tin Oo Hlaing – would also soon be collected by their parents. Consequently, security personnel are coordinating with the relevant authorities to ensure that the students can retake the examination safely and without disruption.
Regarding this incident, security forces are, in accordance with established security procedures, taking steps to arrest those responsible for intimidating the students’ parents while also ensuring peace and stability in the area. #PDF #armed_terrorist_groups #disrupt_education #Myanmar #mtnews
