Kyaikto Township, Mon State – June 13, 2025 – In a troubling incident on June 12, four civilians were injured when a landmine detonated near Boka village, prompting concerns about the escalating violence in the region. The attack occurred around 9:30 a.m. as a WISH vehicle, driven by Myo Min Khant and carrying two female passengers, traveled along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was ambushed by operatives of the Karen National Union (KNU) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF), who have been notorious for their recent assaults on civilian targets, including trucks and passenger cars. The explosion injured all four occupants of the vehicle, who were subsequently rushed to Kyaikto Public Hospital for medical treatment.

Local authorities have condemned the actions of KNU and PDF, highlighting that these groups have resorted to indiscriminate mine attacks on public roads, justifying their tactics as meant for military targets. In a statement, officials criticized certain media outlets for disseminating misinformation, suggesting that civilians were at fault for allegedly targeting military convoys—claims that have been categorically denied.
In light of the rising dangers, security forces have initiated mine clearance operations and are enhancing security measures along affected roadways to protect both residents and tourists traveling through the area. The government continues to call for peace and stability as tensions mount in the region.
