Disability registration to be conducted in performing 2024 census: Vice Chairman of SAC

Vice Chairman of SAC Vice-Senior General Soe Win said that Ministry of Immigration and Population and Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement should make coordinated efforts to conduct disability registration in performing the 2024 census.

Currently, disability level fixing and registration has been carried out in four initial project areas – Pobbathiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Hlaingthaya Township in Yangon Region, Hpa-an Township in Kayin State, and PaO Self-Administered Zone, Hopong Township, Shan State (South) to effectively help persons with disabilities. A new plan covering 330 townships of the country will also be drawn, Vice-Senior General Soe Win said.

The country is in progress in overcoming the COVID-19 global pandemic, and it has laid down post-COVID-19 programs for social development of persons with disabilities. Under the guidance of the national committee, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is paying the leading role in approving the five-year strategic plan (2022-2027) on rights of persons with disabilities, modifying the subcommittees, registering the persons with disabilities, increasing the Ks-3 billion capital fund for persons with disabilities, and providing effective support for organizations on persons with disabilities and implementing the tasks, he added.

Myanmar collected nationwide census in 2024 and to implement of 2024 nationwide population and housing census, there are 4 work programs such as preparation, collecting census, listing statistics, surveying and reporting from October 2021 to December 2025. Currently, preparation processes are underway as a first step of the work programs. It is learnt that preparations for collecting 2024 nationwide census will be made to some extend during the tenure of the present government. Detailed plan will be drafted for collecting census data at 110,000 collection plots with the use of Computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) system, former MOIP former minister U Khin Yi said.
