Maintenance of 59 temples in Bagan that were damaged by mocha has been completed

It has been declared that maintenance work on 59 ancient religious buildings affected by Cyclone Mocha in May 2023, has been completed by the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan branch). Additionally, lightning rods have been installed at 11 ancient religious buildings within the Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone.

According to U Kyaw Myo Win, the director of the department, the restoration work strictly followed UNESCO’s guidelines for conservation.

At present, 11 temples and pagodas namely Htilo Minlo, Dhammarazika, Shwehsandaw, Mya, Manuha, Dhammayangyi, Maha Bawdi, Culamani, Pyatthatgyi, Panthaku Mahahtay and Thagyapone out of 22 tall and massive temples, which have lightning rods installed by the Electricity Branch of the Buildings Department within the Construction Ministry.
