U Thein Soe, Chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC) of Myanmar, and Mr Iskander Azizov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Myanmar, convened an important meeting at the UEC office in Nay Pyi Taw. This meeting underscored the 76-year longstanding diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Russia, dating back to 1948, and probed the prospects for further cooperation.
U Thein Soe mentioned the UEC’s visit to Russia in September 2023. This visit was part of a broader initiative to observe and learn from Russia’s local elections, aiming to facilitate free and fair elections in Myanmar. This aligns with the State Administration Council’s roadmap, which prioritizes democratic principles and processes.
