Myanmar discusses UNHCR on assistance provision to Mocha storm-affected people

Union Minister for Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khaing received representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Myanmar Ms. Noriko Takagi on 26 May and discussed assistance provision to Mocha storm-affected people.

At the call, Ms. Noriko Takagi reported to the union minister on situation of serving duty in Myanmar, matter related to providing solar lamps to strong wind-affected people from UNHCR, proving other rescue equipment to Sittwe and issues on signing MOU.

Afterward, the union minister said low risk for people due to preparations made by the government before Mocha storm approaches, measures taken after opening the natural disaster management central department as of 8 May.

The planes and vessels from government and Tatmadaw transported rescue equipment to Rakhine State, measures arranged to be sold the foodstuff in Rakhine State at a reasonable price.
