Motion Picture Academy Awards for 2019, 2020 and 2022 were presented at Open Air Theatre near Nay Pyi Taw Town Hall on 6 May with an address by Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.
The ceremony was formally opened by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and Chairman of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization U Kyi Soe Tun. It was followed by the screening of Myanmar movie industry.
In his speech, the Vice Senior General said Myanmar movie industry has already served for the country and its people for over 100 years through the works of art. He highlighted that safeguarding the cultural arts of the country is important in an effort of development of a nation.
He urged all from movie industry to cooperate in development works of the nation with correct outlook. Chairman of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization U Kyi Soe Tun also spoke at the ceremony. It was followed by the entertainment, performed by the Fine Arts Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.
The award winners were later announced and presented the awards that include Best Cinematography, Best Music,Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Screenplay,Best Picture,Best Director, Best Supporting Actress,Best Supporting Actor,Best Actress and Best Actor awards.
Moreover, 4 Fashion Awards were presented to 2 actors and 2 actresses among the attendees.The Academy Awards were chosen among 97 movies, that have been screened in 2019, 21 movies in 2020 and 20 in 2022.
Throughout its history, over 4,000 movies have been produced till 2022. A total of 423 academy awards have been presented till the 63rd ceremony. Moreover, 2 lifetime academy awards were presented in 2022.
The academy award presentations have been held since 1952 aiming to encourage domestic film production. The ceremony has been suspended for four-year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
