President U Min Aung Hlaing stated in his speech during the World MSME Day commemoration ceremony that developing the MSME sector is a national responsibility crucial for promoting the national economy.
The MSME sector encompasses various activities, including manufacturing, trading, and services. By promoting MSME businesses, we can boost the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and significantly contribute to the development of the national economy. To effectively implement the country’s economic goals and advance the MSME sector, which serves as the backbone of our nation, the “Ministry of Industry and Micro, Small, Medium, and Enterprise Development” was established under our new government. This initiative aligns with the national vision of systematically developing the MSME sector to enhance the socio-economic well-being of all citizens. It reflects our commitment and determination, as emphasized by U Min Aung Hlaing.
In line with our objectives, it is essential to accelerate and effectively develop the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector while encouraging support for domestic MSMEs from all fronts. Today’s event will feature MSME product exhibitions, showcases of MSME development activities, exhibitions highlighting support from associations, research presentations, workshops, and seminars for exchanging experiences related to MSME development. These initiatives aim to capture the significance of World MSME Day.
According to the World Bank and the United Nations, approximately 90 percent of businesses worldwide are MSMEs, and they account for 60 to 70 percent of global employment and about 50 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). In our country, around 90 percent of businesses fall under the MSME category, contributing to about 70 percent of job creation. Thus, the development of the MSME sector is viewed as a national responsibility vital for promoting the national economy. We encourage everyone to actively participate in this effort, as emphasized by the President.
