President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar is currently on an official visit to India from May 30 to June 3, 2023, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This visit marks U Min Aung Hlaing’s first trip to India since he took office as President. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Union Ministers, senior officials, and business representatives.
On the morning of June 1, the two leaders met at Hyderabad House in New Delhi to discuss cooperation that would benefit both countries.
Prior to the meeting, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with President U Min Aung Hlaing on Sunday morning. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared this update on X social media.
Additionally, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with the Myanmar President on Saturday, commending his positive approach to strengthening bilateral relations.
Jaishankar stated on X social media, “I am delighted to meet Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing today in New Delhi. I appreciate his positive approach to deepening our long-term and sustainable bilateral cooperation. I look forward to the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U Min Aung Hlaing to further enhance our partnership for peace, progress, and prosperity.”
Before arriving in New Delhi, U Min Aung Hlaing visited Bodh Gaya in the state of Bihar. Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed the visit and emphasized the deep cultural and spiritual ties between India and Myanmar.
During his time in Bodh Gaya, the Myanmar president paid homage to the Mahabodhi Pagoda, one of the most revered sacred sites for Buddhists and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Earlier on Friday, Jaiswal outlined the broad agenda for discussions between the two countries.
