The opening ceremony of the 40,000-ton dry dock at the Naval Dockyard Headquarters under the Myanmar Navy, along with the keel-laying ceremony for two anti-submarine warfare vessels and the commissioning ceremony of naval vessels, was held yesterday morning in the Thanlyin naval area.
The event was attended by Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, together with General Ye Win Oo, Admiral Htein Win, General Tun Aung, Union Ministers, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region and senior military officers.
During the ceremony, the Commander-in-Chief inaugurated the commemorative stone pillar of the 40,000-ton dry dock by pressing a ceremonial button and sprinkling fragrant water.
At the naval jetty, the commissioning ceremony of Myanmar Navy vessels was also held. The Commander-in-Chief (Navy) presented commemorative miniature models of the vessels, while commissioning pennants were handed over to the respective commanding officers.
During the ceremony, the newly built frigate Thalun Min, the largest domestically built warship in the history of Myanmar Navy shipbuilding, was officially commissioned. The vessel successfully completed more than one month of sea trials, totaling 279 sailing hours and 3,418 nautical miles, before entering service.
