Myanmar firmly supports China’s One China Policy, stated Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, head of the National Defense and Security Council Press Office, regarding comments made by Japanese Prime Minister Mrs. Sanae Takaichi about Taiwan.
Earlier this November, the Japanese Prime Minister suggested that if China were to conduct a military attack on Taiwan, it could prompt military intervention, potentially jeopardizing Japan’s survival.
When questioned by the media about Myanmar’s stance on this issue, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun clarified Myanmar’s position in three key points, noting that the new Japanese Prime Minister’s remarks regarding Taiwan were covered in international media. Myanmar’s position is clear:
- The Myanmar government firmly supports China’s One China Policy. Myanmar’s interim President, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, has consistently reaffirmed this support during meetings with Chinese leaders, stated Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun.
- “China and Myanmar are good neighbors and friends, and we are working together to build a community of common interests as strategic partners. Myanmar places great importance on this relationship,” Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun added.
- “In line with the first point of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, Myanmar respects and always supports China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he concluded.
