Visitor arrivals have increased recently in Popa and Bagan, according to residents. Many people have now crowded to Popa to enjoy the famous ritual ceremony, “Aba Htwet Pwe”, marking the day Bo Min Gaung died, and they’ve also visited Bagan.
“Monsoon is usually a low season for tourists in Bagan, but there is a slight increase during public holidays and weekends. Recently, Bagan has seen an influx of visitors, as those who come to celebrate the Aba Htwet Pwe also make pilgrimages here. The transportation is fine and Bagan is now thronged with visitors,” said a resident.
Most visitors are local, while foreign tourists typically arrive from October until the pre-Thingyan period. Visitor arrivals to Bagan-NyaungU were also large in last year’s tour season, and it is expected to rise in this October, the start of the tour season.
There are currently local visitors who are interested in travelling during the coming tour season, the Thadingyut holiday.
