The “Law on the Prevention of Disruption and Sabotage of Multi-Party Democratic General Elections” was enacted by the State Administration Council under Law No. (48/2025) on July 29, 2025. This law imposes the death penalty on any individual involved in crimes committed during the election period if such crimes result in a person’s death.
Section 17 of the law specifies that no person shall, directly or indirectly: (a) threaten, obstruct, or use undue influence to prevent a voter from casting their vote; (b) voluntarily inflict pain; or (c) voluntarily inflict serious bodily harm.
Section 18 of the Act states that during the election period, no person shall threaten, obstruct, or harass a polling station officer, a member of a polling station, or any individual assigned by the Commission or a sub-commission. Such actions are prohibited if they aim to prevent these officials from carrying out their duties.
Similarly, Section 19 of the Act prohibits any person from threatening, obstructing, or harassing a member of the Election Commission or a sub-commission during the election period. This is also prohibited if the intention is to hinder them from performing their responsibilities.
Section 20 of the law states that no person shall, directly or indirectly, (a) threaten, obstruct, or harass; (b) intentionally cause pain; or (c) intentionally cause serious pain to any candidate for parliament who is unable to campaign in accordance with the law.
