The Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) donated 500,000 doses of the BCG vaccine, valued at approximately US$90,000, to Myanmar as a gesture of humanitarian support for the Ministry of Health’s immunisation programs.
The vaccines arrived at Yangon International Airport yesterday afternoon via MAI Airlines. In order to protect newborns from the BCG virus, the vaccine must be administered within 24 hours after birth. If it cannot be given within the first 24 hours, it can still be administered either before the infant reaches two months of age or together with other vaccines at the age of two months. The donation will help Myanmar implement its tuberculosis prevention programs successfully.
