Birth registration for children born outside Myanmar to Myanmar parents must be applied for through the Myanmar Embassy in Japan within a year by Myanmar citizenship procedures.
To provide legal and administrative assistance to Myanmar citizens living and working in Japan, the Embassy stated that both parents must be Myanmar citizens who hold National Scrutiny Cards. If they have old cards, they must be replaced first. Child’s passport application can be processed only after the birth registration at the Immigration and Population Department through the Embassy.
Requirements for registration include birth outside the country (Form 8), personal data (for both parents and the child), and copies of passports, national identity cards, marriage certificates, family lists issued by the township office in Japan, resident cards, and a notarised public document of the birth certificate. The data form for the child on the embassy website must be completed and submitted with the following particulars: one colour photo, passport, IDs, and copies of the household register.
There is a fee of 6000 yen for new passports and 3000 yen for endorsements. According to the Embassy, applicants must submit original bank chalan and other requested information.
