The Tanintharyi Region Government announced that basic Russian language classes are now being offered to local residents in Dawei. This is in preparation for the upcoming launch of the Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ), where Russian nationals are expected to work.
The classes aim to help locals communicate better with Russian workers and improve job opportunities. They are also meant to support the social and economic development of ethnic communities in the area.
Under the guidance of Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, the course was officially launched yesterday at the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs office in Dawei.
The basic Russian course will run from May 14 to June 5. Around 150 participants — including officials, students, youth, and interested locals — will attend the training.
Earlier in March, SAC Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visited Russia on an official trip. During the visit, Myanmar and Russia agreed to cooperate on the Dawei Deep-Sea Port project.
On March 4, both countries signed agreements for the project in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and SAC Chairman Min Aung Hlaing.
