The Kalatan Comprehensive Development Project is a joint initiative between India and Myanmar, located in Sittwe, Rakhine State.
Indian Ambassador Abhay Thakur visited Sittwe Port from January 16 to 17, 2025, to assess ongoing operations.
Ambassador Thakur, along with Shri Sunil Mukundan and officials from IPGL and the Indian Embassy, reviewed the Sittwe Port, part of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Corridor (KMMTTC).
Since its opening in May 2023, the port has handled over 150 cargo vessels, transporting goods like rice, medicines, fuel, vehicles, and construction materials.
Ambassador Thakur met Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin to discuss joint development projects and initiatives under the Rakhine State development plan.
Both sides agreed that Sittwe Port will enhance connectivity, promote people-to-people exchanges, tourism, and cultural heritage development.
