Sitagu Sayadaw helps 43 Myanmar fishermen who faced difficulties to return home from India

Under the arrangement of Sitagu Sayadaw, 43 Myanmar fishermen who faced difficulties to return home after they were seized by Indian officials due to fishing outside the permitted zone were allowed to return homes.

43 Myanmar fishermen were seized by Indian authorities due to fishing in Indian sea border. Some Myanmar workers were detained in prisons of India for over four years and some for over three years. Most of them are Labutta Township in Ayeyawaday Region and Gwa Township in Rakhine State. Sitagu Sayadaw requested the Indian officials to return home for the Myanmar workers.

Sitagu Sayadaw donated flight fees for 43 Myanmar workers who faced difficulty to return home and brought them home on 24 November. Sitagu Sayadaw donated Ks-20,000 for each to return native town via Yangon.

Sitagu Sayadaw had already saved a total of 50 novices and nuns who faced difficulties and arrived in Sri Lanka for various reasons in 2010 with cash donation for flight fees.

In addition, Sitagu Sayadaw saved about 2,000 Myanmar citizens who were detained in prison in Malaysia in 2013.

Similarly, Sitagu Sayadaw also saved Myanmar citizens who trapped in India as airlines worldwide suspended flights due to COVID-10 pandemic in 2020 with three flights.
