There are 26 companies which applied for license permission to import electric cars from abroad, Deputy Minister for Information Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said at the press conference today.

Scrutiny works for these companies are underway and permissions have not still been given to any company at present, he said.

“There are 26 companies which applied for license permission. We have not still allowed any company. The government issued the import rules EVs from abroad in November,” he added. The committee related to import, assembling, manufacture and selling of electric vehicles has requested basic facts from companies to import and sell the EVs; and some companies gave presentation to the committee, an official of a company said.

“We have mainly to give presentation on charger stations and where we set up them. If we set up in public areas, we have presented how to carry out,” he added.

Myanmar imposed zero tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) imports effective from November, the state-run media cited the Ministry of Planning and Finance as saying.
