Although the visitor arrival to Putao in Kachin State is getting high again, number of tourists to ice-capped mountains is still low, an official from local tourism agency told MT News agency.

The local and foreign tourist arrival to Kachin State was 71,771 in 2021, 184,111 in 2022, and 70,788 from January to April 2023. Only foreign visitor arrival is 885 from January to June 2023, and it is an increase number of visitors, according to the data released by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

The number of visitors who visit local places is greater than those who visit to ice-capped mountains. People are paying attention to the travelling after COVID-19, but not so much, an official said.

The ice-capped mountains trip mainly depends on transportation and it is a costly one. Those who want to go there must have at least Ks-2 million, and it takes 11 day, he added.
