International tourist arrivals to Myanmar hiked by 214 percent as of January, according to the data of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
The country welcomed 35,722 foreign visitors in January, 2023, an increase of 11,372 visitors compared to the same period last year.
17,884 tourists entered Myanmar by air, 89 by cruise and 17,421 through border gates this year, the data showed.
230,000 international tourists visited the country in 2022 and the tourist arrivals this year slightly increased after sharply dropped in the period of COVID-19 pandemic.
Myanmar received 4.36 million tourists in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry’s figures showed.
