Cleaning works begins to reopen Tachileik-Mae Sai Friendship Bridge I this month

The cleaning works are started to conduct to reopen Tachileik-Mae Sai Friendship Bridge I on the Myanmar-Thailand border, an official of the Ministry of Commerce told the MT news agency.
At present, the Chiang Rai district authority sent a letter to the Tachileik district to open the bridge. So, Myanmar is asking the remarks from department-to department.
As Thai side is ready to open Tachileik-Mae Sai Friednship Bridge I, attempts will be made to reopen for the smooth transport as quickly as possible, the letter stated.
The high-level official said: “The Tachileik district general administration office is planning to clean and paint the bridge on 16 January. The state government asked remarks on letter sent by Thai side. The bridge may be opened this month. We responded that the bridge should be reopened. The resumption of bridge is expected to benefit economy, social and health for both countries. The reopening of the bridge can create the job opportunities for local people and support the development of the region.”
The travellers are allowed to pass the Tachileik-Mae Sai Friednship Bridge I. The vehicles for trading between Myanmar and Thailand are allowed to pass Bridge II.
The Tachileik-Mae Sai Friednship Bridge I was closed for nearly three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
