According to sources, Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge 1 is currently open and bilateral transport is taking place. Myanmar’s regular border trade route has been temporarily closed, but import licenses have been prioritised for trading with Thailand through Ranong-Kawthaung-Yangon.
For Thai products which would be imported through Ranong port, ships are enough, said a source. Mobile phones and accessories, motorcycles and palm oil are major Thai imports to Myanmar. Currently, border trade importers for Thai products have to apply for import licenses only if they have export earnings, and import licenses must be used for all items they wish to import, according to Myanmar authorities.
Tak Province Merchants Association had a meeting on the closure of the bridge on 18 August, and the Thailand Ministry of Commerce has sought to find a solution through negotiation with the Myanmar government. #Thai_Myanmar #Friendship_Bridge #mtnews
