In a controversial declaration, the Tharyarwaddy People’s Defense Force (PDF) admitted to the shooting of U Htun Htun, an unarmed village elder, in Putaingzu Village, Letpadan Township, Bago Region on May 27. U Htun Htun, known as a leader of the 100 Houses Group and accused of being associated with the Pyu Saw Htee militia, was shot three times in the head by members of the Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802, which operates under the command of the National Unity Government (NUG).
Witnesses reported that U Htun Htun was returning from a security checkpoint when he was intercepted by the PDF forces around 1:00 PM. His mobile phone was also confiscated during the incident.
The PDF claimed that U Htun Htun had been actively investigating and reporting on their movements, pressuring local youths to enlist in military service, and threatening community members for financial contributions under the pretext of military obligations. They allege he also spread misinformation and detained individuals challenging the PDF’s authority.
While the 3rd Battalion of the 3802nd Battalion defended their actions as justified, MT News has yet to verify the authenticity of these claims. The PDF has not provided any substantive evidence to back their assertion of responsibility.
