{"id":7223,"date":"2024-09-13T13:20:45","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T13:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mtnewstoday.com\/en\/?p=7223"},"modified":"2024-09-13T13:20:47","modified_gmt":"2024-09-13T13:20:47","slug":"mount-popa-is-seeking-recognition-as-a-unesco-global-geopark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mtnewstoday.com\/en\/?p=7223","title":{"rendered":"Mount Popa is seeking recognition as a UNESCO global geopark"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>13 September 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the National-level Committee on Geoparks, Mount Popa National Geopark, Myanmar&#8217;s first national-level geopark, is being identified with new geosites to gain recognition as a global geopark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of its exceptional potential, Mount Popa was declared the country&#8217;s first national geopark on 6 December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNESCO global geoparks require a diverse range of geological sites, and Mount Popa is currently seeking to increase the number of proposed geosites from 15 to 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project will involve different organizations, academic institutions, and research teams.
