Myanmar’s Department of Fisheries has banned fishing for three months starting from April 1 during the fish spawning season to protect aquatic resources, state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main reason for designating fishing ban periods and zones is to prevent the decline of fish species and to promote the growth of fishery resources, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“These measures are carried out as a conservation effort during the breeding season when fish reproduce,” it said, quoting U Zaw Min Oo, deputy director of the Myeik District Department of Fisheries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All fishing boats operating in offshore areas are prohibited from fishing during the non-fishing period and in no-fishing zones for three months from April 1 to June 30, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
