U Aung Lin Dwe, a member of parliament from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), was elected as the new Speaker of Myanmar’s Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) in a parliament session held in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday, according to state-owned Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
U Aung Lin Dwe was elected on the first day of the first session of Myanmar’s third Amyotha Hluttaw. He became a member of parliament after winning the Amyotha Hluttaw seat in Mandalay region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first day of the first regular session of the third Amyotha Hluttaw saw full attendance, with all 213 members of parliament present, according to MRTV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, U Khin Yi was elected as the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) during the first day of its first regular session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The USDP won a majority of seats in the Union Parliament in the general election completed earlier this year, according to official results released by the Union Election Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Myanmar’s Union Parliament consists of two houses, with a total of 664 seats, the 440-seat Pyithu Hluttaw and the 224-seat Amyotha Hluttaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
