Today at 12:51:02 pm local time, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale struck central Myanmar. The epicenter was located approximately 21 km northeast of the Mandalay seismic station, 20 km northeast of Mandalay city, at latitude 22.09\u00b0N and longitude 96.23\u00b0E, with a depth of 10 km. Several aftershocks, around three in number, were also recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strong tremors affected the Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway Regions, northeastern Shan State, Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory, and Bago Region, damaging roads, bridges, and buildings. Some citizens sustained injuries in the disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing promptly visited the earthquake-affected areas within Nay Pyi Taw within hours after the disaster. Accompanied by members, he first inspected the damage to roads and bridges along the Pinlaung Junction to the Nay Pyi Taw Command traffic light area, Yaza Htani Road, and the Pyinmana-Taungnyo Highway.
He directed officials to prioritize public convenience, expedite repairs using available manpower and machinery, and restore road conditions as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, the Senior General and his entourage visited Nay Pyi Taw\u2019s 1,000-bed People\u2019s Hospital to meet with earthquake victims receiving medical treatment. He encouraged the injured and instructed the Ministry of Health and the Directorate of Medical Services to collaborate in providing urgent healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the Senior General and the entourage inspected rescue operations at the damaged Khaye staff housing complex near Nay Pyi Taw\u2019s central market and the collapsed shops in the Thabyegone market area. The Senior General emphasized the need to prioritize rescuing those trapped under debris, ensuring rescue teams are fully equipped, and maintaining safety measures during relief efforts.
